The NZ Government offers three different student visa types:

1) Fee Paying Student Visa: To study at an accredited college or university FULLTIME

2) Exchange Student Visa: For participation in an exchange program, including high school and university study

3) Pathway Student Visa: For non-academic, Pathway, vocational study or training

When to apply

Students are advised to start their New Zealand Study Visa processing atleast Six to Ten Weeks before your intended travel date to New Zealand.

How to Apply
- 1. Create Visa Application account on -- Student Visa Application
- 2. Select Fee paying student visa application.
- 3. Fill the form as required. You will have to enter the details of student’s parents and sibilings including their DOB, marital status, study and current working etc.
- 4. Get your Police Verification (PCC) done. It may take 25-30 days, so plan early.
- 5. Get your medical done from doctors approved by New Zealand government. You just need to get chest X-Ray for Tuberculosis. No need to go for Full medical, until specifically asked by the Embassy.
- 6. Prepare Financial documents for the entire duration of study.
- 7. Fill Financial Undertaking form (INZ 1014) from each Sponsor.
- 8. Complete Visa application, Upload docs as requested.
- 9. Pay Application fee and submit.
- 10. You will be requested for a Skype / phone interview…..pls prepare for that. (You may receive Interview request in approx 15-30 days after Application submission)
- 11. Appear for the Interview and answer the questions honestly.
- 12. Once everything is completed, Visa decision is given within 4-8 weeks.
- 13. If decision is favorable, AIP Visa (Approval in Principal) may be issued.
- 14. In case of AIP- Visa officer can ask you to open FTC account.
- 15. Open FTC account and submit all the requested docs.
- 16. Post submission, your E- Visa will be granted. Just Take a printout of that.
- 17. Post Visa, book your Flights...Best of Luck !

Q1. How long does it take to get a student visa in New Zealand?

Ans. The processing time for a student visa application can vary depending on where you are applying from, and the volume of applications being processed at the time. Still, it is recommended to apply as early as Six to Ten weeks from your course start date.

Q2. How much money do I need to show for a student visa in New Zealand?

Ans. You will need to show that you have enough money to cover your tuition fees and living expenses for the duration of your studies. You have to show First Year tuition + First Year Living expense as Liquid funds. For rest of the remaining years of Study- you need to show funds in fixed assets as well. The exact amount you will need to show will depend on the length of your course and where you will be studying in New Zealand.

Q3. Can I work on a student visa in New Zealand?

Ans. Yes, you can usually work part-time during your studies and full-time during scheduled breaks, such as during the summer holidays. However, there may be restrictions on the type of work you can do, and you will need to check the conditions of your specific visa.

Q4. Can I work Part time during the period of my studies?

Ans. Yes, even as a Full time student, one can enjoy part time work rights in New Zealand. In New Zealand you can work 20 hrs/ week during full time study and 40 hrs/ week during vacations.

Q5. Can I apply for permanent residency in New Zealand after studying on a student visa?

Ans. Yes, you may be eligible to apply for permanent residency in New Zealand after completing your studies, depending on your individual circumstances. There are several pathways to permanent residency, including the Skilled Migrant Category visa and the Work to Residence visa.
